Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Relief of fever & mild to moderate pain in childn eg, headache & toothache.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Fever & pain Childn 6-12 yr 5-10 mL tds-qds, 1-6 yr 2.4-5 mL tds-qds, infant 3-12 mth 1.2-2.4 mL tds-qds, 1-3 mth 0.6-1.2 mL tds-qds. Post-immunization fever Infant 2-3 mth 1.2 mL as single dose, 2nd dose may be repeated after 6 hr if necessary. Max: Not >4 doses in 24 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Not recommended in infants <1 mth.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if severe skin reactions occur. Not to be taken concomitantly w/ other paracetamol-containing drugs. Hepatic or renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Cutaneous hypersensitivity reactions eg, skin rashes, angioedema, SJS, TEN.
Drug Interactions
Increased chloramphenicol conc. Increased effects of oral anticoagulants eg, warfarin. Increased absorption by drugs increasing gastric emptying eg, metoclopramide. Decreased absorption by drugs decreasing gastric emptying eg, propantheline or narcotic analgesics, pethidine. Increased toxicity w/ enzyme-inducing agents eg, alcohol or phenytoin.
